FITTING your floor

Which way fits you?

Some clients prefer to have their flooring run parallel to the longest wall. This makes your room look expansive. It also expands your budget by reducing wastage.

Some opt to run the boards parallel to the sunlight illuminating your home. This serves to make the joints less visible. It's the preferred layout for many interior designers.

The edge

Floors generally require a perimeter gap for expansion as the seasons change. This gap may be concealed by:

  • Beading (sometimes called scotia or trim)
  • Skirting
  • Shadow Gap

For a beading/scotia finish, Salmon Flooring recommend a colour and moulding matching your skirting where possible.

Beading same colour as skirting

We can remove the existing skirting before laying your floor. Once the floor is laid we fix it back to neatly conceal the gap. Should you seize the opportunity to fit new skirting Salmon Flooring will gladly carry out the work.

Shadow gap

A contemporary finish often seen in art galleries. If you have an existing shadow gap we can conceal the floor expansion gap. If you are interested in a new shadow gap finish we will happily help you with this.

Underlay absorbs moisture, aids in soundproofing and heat retention. It also supplies a relaxing, feet-friendly springyness. The nature of your sub-floor will determine the correct choice of underlay.
